ART

 Glass Artist
Annemarie Fux and her latest work .

Fun and oh so yummy is the play with glass!
My name is Annemarie Fux and I work with glass. Fusing glass is my passion which I discovered not too long ago. I was seduced by glass many years ago.
Kelowna's OUCO offers a Fine Art Program but not one that includes working with glass. I was advised to work with plexi glass – highly toxic – and I did. I also honed my skills in painting, drawing, photography and graduated with a major in sculpting.
Like most people, I just knew about glass blowing or stained glass. I did not know what was 'warm glass'.  In case you are wondering... warm glass is kiln formed glass, which can be cast, fused, and slumped .
Glennie McKirdy from Canmore AB let me play at her glass art studio when she needed help preparing for a show.   I also apprentice with David Montpetit at his glass work studio in Kelowna BC.
In January 2011 I finally realized my dream and opened my own glass studio at 1352 Industrial Road West Kelowna BC.
More of my work can be seen at Annemarie Fux page on this blog or you can visit my website www.healingfeather.com

ART

"Not having art around means losing your sight, your hearing and your soul."

 Lisa Lutz

-My Nana taught me how to sew, and by eight years old I was already designing clothes for Barbie. I’ve had my hand in something creative ever since, so it came as no surprise to my family and friends when I started making my own glass beads and silver jewelry.

-I love to learn and have taken classes and workshops in wirework, ArtClay silver and metalsmithing. While looking for the "perfect" bead, I discovered lampworking. Lampworking is the ancient art of melting glass with a specialized oxygen- propane torch (formerly a gas “lamp”) to create small objects of delightful beauty. It is an art form that is constantly evolving, and this makes it so interesting. As with all handmade artwork, every bead I make is unique. My hobby quickly became my passion and my home studio was built. I have been making lampwork beads ever since, for almost five years now.
Living in Kelowna, BC with my husband, we have been kept busy balancing work and raising seven children.  When I'm not in the studio making beads, I work as Medical Laboratory Technologist in Microbiology and I’m a part-time student working on a degree in Health Science. Having a creative outlet has kept me sane.
